Kambo
A traditional Amazonian practice approached with respect, preparation and care
I am a trained Kambo practitioner, and I approach this work with respect for its traditional origins and a strong emphasis on safety, informed choice and individual wellbeing.
Kambo is a traditional practice originating from Indigenous communities of the Amazon rainforest. It involves a secretion from the Phyllomedusa bicolor frog, rather than a plant medicine.
Kambo can produce rapid and intense physical effects and carries significant health risks, including potentially life-threatening complications. It is not a medically established treatment for physical or mental health conditions.
For me, preparation, honest conversation and understanding the risks are essential. I believe everyone should have clear information and the freedom to decide whether this practice is right for them, without pressure or expectation.
Understanding Kambo
Kambo is a traditional practice associated with Indigenous communities of the Amazon rainforest, particularly in parts of Brazil and Peru.
The secretion comes from the Phyllomedusa bicolor frog and is traditionally applied through small, superficial burns on the skin.
The experience can produce rapid and intense physical reactions, including flushing, nausea, vomiting, sweating and changes in heart rate or blood pressure.
Understanding what the practice involves, its potential risks and whether it is appropriate for an individual is essential before any decision is made.
My Approach to Kambo
As a trained Kambo practitioner, I believe that respect, preparation and informed choice are essential.
My approach begins with an honest conversation about your reasons for exploring Kambo, your health and any concerns you may have. Health screening is an important part of this process, although it cannot eliminate the risks associated with Kambo.
I aim to create a calm, respectful environment where questions are welcomed and there is no pressure to proceed.
I also recognise the importance of allowing time afterwards for rest, reflection and integration.
For me, this work is about approaching a traditional practice with humility, care and respect for each person's individual circumstances.
Care, Preparation and Informed Choice
I believe that anyone exploring Kambo deserves clear information, time to ask questions and the freedom to make their own decision.
Kambo is a traditional practice that can bring about strong physical reactions. It also carries health risks, which is why understanding someone's individual circumstances and discussing any concerns beforehand are so important.
Although Kambo has a long history of traditional use, it is not a medically proven treatment. Practitioner training and health screening are valuable parts of a responsible approach, but they cannot remove every risk.
I encourage anyone considering Kambo to seek independent medical advice, especially if they have a health condition or take medication.
My intention is always to approach these conversations with openness, respect and care, without pressure or expectation.
